The Eagle Fire Protection District is 75 years strong. In order to maintain department strength and sustain the district’s continued growth we run an open recruitment list for lateral hires and hire entry level firefighters. Please check out the requirements for both entry level firefighters and lateral hires:

Entry Level:


  • High School Diploma, GED or higher.
  • Minimum age at time of hire-18.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Obtain a valid State of Idaho driver’s license within 6 months of hire date.
  • State of Idaho EMT-B (or higher) highly desirable but not required at time of hire. Must obtain State of Idaho EMT-B within the fire academy (to be taught as part of the fire academy).
  • Physical fitness level-Arduous.
  • Must be able to pass NFPA 1582/DOT pre-employment physical and medical assessment upon receiving a conditional job offer.
  • Candidates with any felonies, felony driving convictions and/or drug felony convictions will be disqualified.
  • Candidates must pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Must achieve an overall passing score on the National Testing Network written test to move forward in the hiring process.


Lateral:


  • Applicant must be currently employed as a career full-time paid Firefighter EMT with a Municipal fire department or full-time paid Firefighter EMT with a Fire District.
  • High School Diploma, (GED).
  • Minimum age at time of hire-18.
  • Physical Fitness Level -Arduous.
  • Possess a valid Idaho driver’s license or obtain within 1 month of employment.
  • A current State of Idaho EMT Certification OR current National Registry EMT Certification (NREMT) is the minimum certification to apply. Candidates shall submit a copy of proof with application.
  • Proof of current EMT certification is required from the state you are licensed in if applying from out of state. Applications submitted without proof of EMT will not be considered.
  • Candidate must be able to gain reciprocity with the Idaho EMT certification. You can view reciprocity information at http://healthandwelfare.idaho.gov
  • Candidates with any felonies, felony driving convictions and/or felony drug convictions will be disqualified.
  • Candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Candidates’ completion of an IFSAC / Pro Board Firefighter 1 certification, or equivalent, is required. If the candidate holds an equivalent certification, it will be their responsibility to provide substantiating documentation for consideration by the Eagle Fire Department. The decision on whether to accept the certification will be at the discretion of the Eagle Fire Department. The Fire Chief’s determination shall be final. Applications submitted without proof of IFSAC Firefighter 1/Pro Board, or equivalent documentation, will not be considered.
  • CPR-must have an American Heart Association Certification prior to employment.


Hiring Process 

Recruitment: Open recruitment of lateral and/or entry level firefighters   January 2024: Currently not hiring

Interview: Peer interviews; Fire Chief’s interview

Academy: Entry level academy runs 18-20 weeks; Lateral academy 4-6 weeks

Probationary Period: One year from date of hire
